About hyacinths

An ordinary girl-woman, leading a not-so-ordinary life :)

It’s the end of May!

It’s been a mixed bag this week. I’ve never been so amused with the Anonymous attacks on Pirate Bay and the messages left for the poor guys- work has been bloody brilliant and art has been even better.

The random hot yoga I’ve been managing to squeeze Inbetween the cycling spurts (28km is no joke ok), has seen me squeeze back into my old skinny dresses. I love Run Keeper :) I’ve not known such motivation.

Shock of the week – I was furniture shopping and chanced upon a Victorian chair upholstered in the same fabric as one of my dresses. Oh the Horror!

20120525-083653.jpg I don’t know if I should wear it again. Sigh.

I’ve had my childhood mate visit with his wife from the land of the Bedouins and everyone got along surprisingly well. And she’s a foodie! Win!

And of course my little babies are adorable and so cuddly. One thinks he’s a Giant Schnauzer and one thinks he’s a lap dog. Here’s a pic of them asleep in bed with us. The humans have to sleep in the kennel and we don’t mind :)

Latest piece of art completed, thanks to Dan for letting me paint his pic from Japan.

In true (poor) artist fashion, I’ve bought more canvas even though I’m broke and went one step further and bought the fifth book in the Ice and Fire series instead of patiently waiting my turn at the library. Oh well.

I think I’m going to read, order take out, paint and sleep this weekend.
Happy Friday!

The sorry tale of a vampire, a witch and other assorted anomalies

So yesterday I had the ill sense to insist we catch the latest offering from
Depp and Burton – Dark Shadows. Worst movie choice this year, thus far! Also didn’t help that we were sat near three Indians, and the chick wouldn’t stop talking on the phone and later, to her neighbor! I think theaters should provide duct tape to patrons. Would greatly help the general humor in the enclosed space.

Anyway, back to Johnny boy’s latest box office disaster…

The acting! The horror!
Depp post Pirates can’t seem to shake the ghost of Jack Sparrow, channeling the drunken pirate in every sorry move since. Also, Helena should just quit acting and find an old dark tower with cats to lurk in.

Poor Hit Girl was trying really hard, but the ill-temper and beastlyness didn’t do much to make her otherwise cute self endearing. I really shouldn’t get started on Michelle Pfeiffer, or I’ll never stop ranting. But really, from Catwoman to a bit part as a glorified Fishmonger? Tsk. Must be desperate times.

The general menagerie (other characters); apologies, washed up actors, really didn’t do much for the film that began with a cliched, weak and generally awful storyline.

I really should have kept my date and gone and caught The Avengers for the second time. :(

If vampires, ghouls, witches and werewolves are your thing, please go watch the twilight saga.

Sigh. I’m now going to subject myself to another cinematic disaster – My week with Marilyn. Oh cinema, why do you vex me so?

God must have a degree in fashion, or I’m convinced He’s a She!

Missing a bus has its pluses – this picture for example :)

Its amazing how the sky changes every few seconds… In the time it’s taken me to upload this picture, the cloud has turned into a sheep-shaped powderpuff and is wandering off towards the ocean. I’m a little jealous coz the sky seems to have a perennial supply of new clothes to wear – it never looks the same ever!

The other evening, Foxy and I cycled from home to the East Coast Park and back, covering a cool 14.9kms on our first day. I was particularly excited because having always lived on the West, I’ve never been able to ride my own bike on the coast – those of you who have bikes and have to hire bikes at the ECP, you probably understand what I’m saying ;)

The long bike ride along the coast was made even more enjoyable because of the slight drizzle that started halfway through our adventure. It wasn’t hot and the cool breeze accompanied by the crazy-awesome flashes of lightning made it that much more memorable. I felt like I was in an Enid Blyton adventure! I liked it so much, I’m actually motivated to wake up at the crack of dawn and bike this route daily! (Ok, stop grinning, almost daily.)

We stopped numerous times and tried taking pictures of the lightning with our camera phones. Massive fail! The images however, will forever be burnt in our memory, but I wish I could share those with you. These are times when I wish for a Penseive.

At the end of it all, I came home with a sore bum, a great picture and a giant smile on my face.

This sunset vanished in about a minute and had we tried finding a better setting or foreground, we would have been empty handed. See what I mean by super-changing, never the same-twice sky?

I’ve been here a week, but I guess despite the disgusting company on the 40-minute bus ride to work, and the tick infestation in the area, I might just like it here.

Not Blue. Grey.

Gray-green shades of the am on the outside. Lights on cars blind and silent birds win at staring contests.
Everything’s movingreallyquickly to keep pace with the angry swirling masses of clouds, sweeping up leaves and tossing them around like confetti at a wedding.

On cue, it pelts the pavement with drops as big as pebbles as soon as the sky is torn apart by flashes bright enough to blind; Screaming in protest.

It’s a Monday morning. Can you tell?

Woof!

Meet Bruce, my second little doggie who has been in SG for two weeks and is just seven months old. Bruce is a little cutie and I love him to bits, just like I love little Sparky and the both of them get along superbly!

Sparky still does agility, but Bruce isn’t built for jumping through hoops. He’s a dainty little fellow who will wow people in the show ring. I’ve my fingers crossed that Crufts does happen for him; and if he wins, I’ll be the proudest mommy in the world!

I’ve read some strange, mad and awesome doggie news from around the world this week -

1. A tiny dachshund puppy called Beyonce who almost didn’t make it. She’s as big as an IPhone!
2. Death sentence on a Rottweiler is reversed in NZ. These are the most misunderstood dogs I think. Just because they look fierce doesn’t mean they are.
3. The most amusing news of the week; TV has gone to the dogs! I’m most amused. I wonder if the Telly will be enough simulation for a housebound dog or if it’s something to help owners not feel as guilty when they don’t spend enough time with their pooches.

So that’s it from my doggies and I. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
Xx

National puppy day for some, dog day for most

According to Mashable, yesterday was puppy day. Really? How about we have a day to celebrate missing sock pairs and stolen slippers (not pointing fingers at our canine companions); but while we’re at it, I’d also like to petition for a day to talk about the lint in our belly buttons and the earwax in our ears – I’m not picky, we can have both on the same day! ;) While Boo is cutie and I do love my LOLCats and LOLDogs to the max, I do want to shoot these people who come up with these ridiculous ‘days’.

Oh well, for little puppies in good homes, it’s always puppy day. What about the little fellows from puppy mills? Maybe tying in these ‘days’ to something that gives it meaning or purpose would make sense like raising money for the strays or rescuing abandoned puppies and kittens. No these are not the ramblings of a crazy dog lady. I think of canine issues all the time, especially in a poorly monitored country like Singapore where a LOT has to be done to stop the puppy trade.

Sigh.

If you have a pet, all I can say is please don’t abandon it or cause it harm. It’s never done anything but love you. And for the love of dog (God), DON’T buy the doggie in the window.

‘Woof’ from B&S, whose lives my life revolves around.
